YACHTFISH specializes in private fishing charters designed specifically for families visiting or living in St. Petersburg and the greater Tampa Bay area.

Our trips combine hands-on fishing, relaxed pacing, and personalized attention to ensure everyone feels comfortable, safe, and included. It’s this approach that has earned YACHTFISH a reputation for offering the BEST kid/family-friendly fishing charters St. Petersburg has to offer.

Whether you are introducing kids to fishing for the first time or planning a shared adventure with multiple generations, YACHTFISH provides a welcoming environment where families can enjoy Florida’s coastal waters together.

A Private Fishing Experience Built for Families

What sets YACHTFISH apart from other St. Petersburg family fishing charters is our focus on private, customized trips. Your family will never be grouped with strangers. Every charter is designed around your group’s comfort level, experience, and schedule.

Our Captains take the time to explain fishing techniques, assist with baiting hooks, and encourage kids throughout the trip. Parents can relax knowing the day is built around safety, patience, and enjoyment. Private charters also allow flexibility if younger anglers need breaks or prefer calmer waters.

Families choosing St. Petersburg family fishing charters often want more than just a fishing trip. They want an experience that feels relaxed, personal, and thoughtfully planned from start to finish. YACHTFISH takes a concierge-style approach, helping families feel confident and excited before they even step aboard.

Family-Friendly Fishing in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is an ideal location for family fishing charters thanks to its calm inshore waters, abundant marine life, and easy access to Tampa Bay. These protected waters provide a comfortable setting for children and first-time anglers while still offering consistent fishing action.

YACHTFISH family fishing trips often explore inshore bays, flats, and nearshore areas around St. Petersburg where conditions are typically mild and scenic. Depending on the season, families may catch species such as Trout, Redfish, Snapper, and other local favorites.

Our Captains choose locations that keep kids engaged and maximize opportunities for successful catches, helping make the trip both exciting and rewarding.

Offshore Options for Families with Older Kids

For families with older children or teens seeking a bit more adventure, YACHTFISH also offers offshore options as part of our St. Petersburg family fishing charters. These trips head into nearby Gulf waters where larger fish and deeper techniques come into play.

Before heading offshore, Captains carefully review weather conditions and your family’s experience level. Safety and comfort remain the top priorities. Offshore family trips are paced appropriately and include clear instructions, making them a great option for families ready to explore beyond the bay.

A Safe and Educational Experience

Safety is central to every YACHTFISH charter. All St. Petersburg family fishing charters are led by licensed, experienced Captains who know local waters, tides, and regulations. Life jackets are available for all ages, and Captains provide guidance throughout the trip.

Our family charters are also educational. Kids learn about local fish species, habitats, and responsible fishing practices. Captains explain how tides affect fish behavior and why conservation is important to Florida’s marine ecosystem.

Many families return year after year because our St. Petersburg family fishing charters grow with them. As kids gain confidence and curiosity, Captains introduce new techniques, species, and locations at a comfortable pace. This creates a sense of progression that keeps fishing exciting while maintaining a safe, supportive environment.

Remember that we handle all licensing and regulatory requirements, allowing families to focus on enjoying their time together.

Fun Facts About Manatees

There are three species of these aquatic herbivores, aka sea cows. According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the Amazonian, West Indian, and West African Manatees are all considered vulnerable and have a high risk of wild extinction. Boat collisions, hunting, habitat destruction, and toxic red tides are the main factors endangering Manatees. Here are some fun facts about the endearing yet endangered Manatees:

  1. They live in coastal areas and feed on seagrass, leaves, and algae. They spend almost half of every day eating up to 10% of their body weight (average 1200 lbs) in plants and greenery.
  2. West Indian and West African Manatees must live in warm water. While they look bulky, their large bodies mainly consist of the stomach and intestines. As a result, they have low metabolic rates and minimal fat protection from cold water. They find their way to warm water during the colder months.
  3. They go to the surface to breathe every 3-5 minutes, but they can stay under for up to 20 minutes. That’s because when they take a breath, they replace about 90% of their lungs, while humans only use 10%.
  4. Like their elephant relatives, Manatees continuously replace their teeth throughout their lives. The older teeth fall out in front as new teeth grow in.
  5. Christopher Columbus’ claims of seeing mermaids having an encounter with Manatees.
  6. Manatees have smooth brains (unlike a human brain that has cortical folds. They also have the lowest brain-to-body size ratio of any mammal.
  7. Females carry a baby Manatee every 2-5 years. Baby Manatees start eating plants when they are a few weeks old.
  8. Most mammals have seven vertebrae, but manatees only have six.
  9. Manatees don’t have natural predators in the wild.
  10. They are buoyant and have horizontal diaphragms, allowing them to control buoyancy with their breathing. Their average speed is 3-5 miles per hour.
