2021 is here and St. Pete Beach’s waters are alive! Despite what many people say, we love winter fishing in St. Pete Beach because we catch a lot of fish! Here’s what you can catch in January and February in St Pete Beach:
Red Grouper Is Hot in St. Pete Beach
As usual in January, in St. Pete Beach, we’re seeing huge numbers of Red Grouper.
These big tasty beasts are usually deep-sea hunters, but they move a lot closer to the beach’s warmer waters in the winter and are found on rocky bottoms. Like most Grouper, the Red Grouper is a monster of a fish and is a catch to be proud of!
Usually, they weigh between 5 and 10lbs and can grow up to 2ft! Regulations allow us to catch 2 per person within the 4 grouper boat aggregate.
Amberjack Is Biting in St. Pete Beach
Amberjack are ignoring all social distancing rules, as we’ve seen them in small groups this January. These aggressive and predatory fish have been caught in their usual spots – reefs, wreckages and structures. With a variety of underwater structures and wreckages near us in St. Pete Beach, Amberjack put up a great fight and are plentiful all year round. We’ll even see more of them as we head into March!
Hogfish Are on Fire in St. Pete Beach
On our fishing charters in St. Pete Beach, we like to hunt down one of the best-tasting fish our waters offer – Hogfish! As we head into February, the high season begins for Hogfish. If you’ve never caught a Hogfish before, you’re in for a treat! These fish fight hard and never give up. They’re great fun for all anglers, young or experienced – guaranteed fun.
January Fishing Charters in St. Pete Beach
The cold days of January that many people write off, are actually some of the best fishing days of the year. As the fish drop off deeper, they get together in larger schools. If you’re on board with an experienced fishing charter captain, it’s game on!
For many people it’s also a more enjoyable time of year for fishing, as you’re not melting under the summer’s blistering sun all day. Fly fishing is also great in St. Pete Beach at this time of the year!
February Fishing Charters in St. Pete Beach
February is notorious for changing every year, but it’s often famous for deep-sea fishing for
the fish we’ve mentioned or hammering the Snook in ultra-shallow waters. As the Snook sun themselves in the shallow waters, you can pick out your catch and go for it.
