Common Flats Fishing Mistakes

Table of Contents

Enjoy a more successful inshore fishing adventure by learning about the common mistakes to avoid when fishing the flats.

One of the best things about inshore fishing in Clearwater is fishing the flats. Shallow water flats, like reefs, inshore lagoons and shoals, are wonderful for anglers of all skill levels because the water is so shallow and clear that you can actually see where you are casting. In order to make the most out of your time on our fishing charter, you need to know about the flats fishing mistakes to avoid. Here are a few of them:

Mistake #1. Wearing bright clothes.

If you wear colors that are overly bright, you’ll alert the fish to your presence. When fish start to sense danger, they aren’t going to bite. When fishing the flats, wear colors that are more neutral and subdued.

Mistake #2. Making too much noise.

Just as wearing bright colors will alert the fish to your presence, so will making a lot of noise. Being observant and quiet will give you the best chance at actually catching fish in the flats.

Mistake #3. Not casting at your first opportunity.

A moment’s hesitation could cause you to miss the fish you are going for. Once you are in range and have a fish in your sights, go for it! As Jim Morrison once said, “The time to hesitate is through.”

When you fish the flats with Yachtfish.com, you’ll have the best chance of a successful fishing adventure. Book your inshore fishing charter online today!
